About the artist
gowun (고운) is a Kansas City–based studio practice rooted in gesture, subtlety, and emotional presence. gowun is the artist’s Korean given name, meaning “delicate,” “graceful,” or “soft”—a quality that intrinsically permeates her work.
With a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in film, gowun’s creative path has evolved into a painting and drawing practice that blends modern minimalism with traditional still life study. Working across a variety of materials, the artist creates intuitive, gestural pieces that explore the quiet power of fragility.
