About the artist

gowun (고운) is a Kansas City–based studio practice rooted in gesture, subtlety, and emotional presence. gowun is the artist’s Korean given name, meaning “delicate,” “graceful,” or “soft”—a quality that intrinsically permeates her work.

With a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in film, gowun’s creative path has evolved into a painting and drawing practice that blends modern minimalism with traditional floral study. Working across a variety of materials, the artist creates intuitive, gestural pieces that explore the quiet power of fragility. In her current collection of works on paper, muted, atmospheric backgrounds contrast with expressive floral marks, capturing the delicate space between stillness and movement, peace and subtle tension.

Through this work, gowun invites the viewer to slow down— to notice the emotional resonance in organic forms and color, and to sit with the soft vibration of the in-between.
